An SEO audit checklist gives a website owner a repeatable way to find technical, content, indexing and user-experience problems before deciding what to fix. Run a crawler that respects the site and does not overload the server. Export status codes, titles, descriptions, headings, canonicals, word counts, depth and internal-link data.
Prioritise server errors, redirect loops, broken internal links and important pages more than three or four clicks from a relevant hub. Retire or redirect obsolete URLs only when there is a clear replacement and a reason to preserve signals.
Step 6: Audit page intent and content quality
Map each important page to one primary visitor intent. Two pages targeting the same purpose can compete or confuse users; several thin location swaps can look like doorway content.
Ask whether the page answers the main question early, demonstrates real expertise, uses current evidence and offers something more useful than the pages already ranking. Remove filler, unsupported superlatives and repeated FAQs. Update a page when the underlying facts change, not merely to change the displayed date.
Step 7: Review titles, headings and snippets
Give every indexable page a descriptive, distinct title. Keep the visible page heading aligned with the topic and use H2 and H3 headings to organise real sections. A template should normally output one clear H1.
Write meta descriptions as accurate summaries with a useful reason to click. Search engines may choose another snippet, so avoid treating exact length or plugin colour as a ranking rule.
